Short Stories

Here are a few short stories that I have written. I hope that you enjoy them. When you click on the title of the poem a new page will open. From there you can download a pdf version.

I decided I should probably explain the origins of my stories and I added completion dates. I am constantly trying to figure out what to do with this website so please be patient with me.

How to Swim the English Channel

This was an old class assignment that I found. I made a few grammatical changes but kept the story the same. The assignment was to write a "how to" story. I know this is pretty ridiculous but it makes me happy.

I wrote this story for a contest. The problem came when I realized I had missed the deadline which was 1 May 2009. I really don't think I could get them to stretch it for me. Too bad I met the other condition, that the story had to deal with time in some way. I like this story and thought it turned out well.

I meant to enter this one into a contest but then I was worried it didn't actually fit the criteria so I chickened out. I hope you enjoy it. I am still not sure I like the title so that may change later. (I have already changed it three times.)

Extra points to whoever can identify the underlying story I based it on.

This is the story I took to my first writing group, it does not include any of the suggestions I received. That is another story that may end up back on the site but right now is in statis. I know that there are errors so don't read it if they will bother you. I hope you enjoy it. This is also available in the Flash section.

18 November 2009

This was a short story I wrote for a writing contest. I haven't gone back and edited it since I joined a writing group so it is still pretty rough. I am still proud of how I worked Dante's Inferno into it and someday will go back and polish it up.

I wrote this story in a creative writing class in college. I know it isn't normally what I write and there is a reason behind it. My professor was actually a creative non-fiction writer and didn't enjoy genre fiction. Therefore all of our stories ended up with depressed-dying-dead people trying to deal with the illness-death-issues of a family member. I did the best I could and she still didn't like my story. Oh well. I did manage to pass the class (one of my lowest grades though).
